The series of Assassin's Creed is one of the most popular brands in the Ubisoft portfolio. Keeping a 12-month-long publishing rhythm, the company decided to release the next complete part one year after the launch of Assassin's Creed III. Again, Ubisoft Montreal was assigned to develop the game with the help of other teams (including Ubisoft Shanghai, Ubisoft Sofia and Ubisoft Montepllier).

Plot

The protagonist of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag for PC, X360 and etc. is Edward Kenway (grandfather of Connor Kenway who appeared in Assassin's Creed III), Welsh pirate living in the 18th century who pretending to be an assassin, learns about a legendary Observatory, enabling to observe every living person. Greedy filibuster decides to keep the secrets of the Observatory for himself, thus becoming a part of the ancient conflict between the Templars and the Assassins. The action takes place on the Caribbean, a year after the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714), during the golden age of piracy. As in the previous games, the creators managed to include authentic events and characters in the plot. Players can meet e.g. Edward Teach (Blackbeard), Benjamin Hornigold, Calico Jack Rackham, Anna Bonny or Charles Vane.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag is, in my opinion, the best pirate game ever made – even if it doesn't quite fit the series it represents. But what do I love most about this work of Ubisoft? Let me tell you.

There are some games that we just keep playing. Never mind the fact that these are titles that are already a few good years old. Many of them have even lived to see remasters, many have become very outdated – so what? We can't seem to stop playing.

The plot of Assassin's Creed is one great conspiracy theory: with mysterious monasteries, intrigues that entwine the whole world, supernatural artifacts and ancient civilization. Hold tight, because the writers of the franchise are not messing around.

11 Good Games Whose Plot is Nonsense

Good games must have good plot, right? Right!? Unfortunately, not. The industry has repeatedly shown us that good developers are enough to earn one’s place in the annals on interactive entertainment. Script? I don’t know, just cook up something, kthxbye.

Seven cardinal sins of sandbox games

Open worlds are currently all the rage in the AAA segment, but nobody seems to be doing too much to expand the known formulas. Most studios seem to fail at the task, and instead of making captivating and coherent worlds, they repeat the same mistakes.

Action

A standalone expansion to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag developed by an in-house Ubisoft studio. Unlike the base game, this time around, the player doesn't assume the role of Edward Kenway, but of his former quartermaster – Adewale, an emancipated black slave who joined the ranks of Assassins. Fifteen years after the events shown in the base game, the main protagonist sets off on a mission to retrieve a package from the hands of the Templars, however, as a result of an accident, his ship crashes near the city of Port-au-Prince, where Adewale encounters his enslaved kin. He does not linger for long and decides to rescue all of them as well as to take his revenge on the white torturers. In Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Freedom Cry the gameplay revolves around the formula developed for the sake of Edward Kenway’s adventures – the expansion offers nine elaborate missions constituting a story mini-campaign. Moreover, players can also enjoy new weapons, such as blunderbusses, bombs, and machetes.
