A sequel to the 2021 tactical jRPG, inspired by the Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem series. In Dark Deity 2 we must defend the land of Verroa from an invasion by a neighboring empire. Our job is to recruit and lead a group of heroes, form alliances, make tough decisions and win countless turn-based battles.
Dark Deity 2 is a sequel of the 2021 tactical jRPG, inspired by the Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics series. The authors of the original are behind the development of this game, namely the independent studio Sword & Axe.
Dark Deity 2 does not introduce revolutionary changes in the mechanics. They are based on the scheme developed for the needs of the first installment of the series.
We watch the action from a bird's eye view, and the most important element here are turn-based skirmishes with opponents. Battles take place on arenas covered with a grid of invisible, square fields. We can move units, however selected attacks are presented on a separate screen showing the participants of the fight from the side.
The game allows us to lead into battle a unit consisting of characters recruited as we progress. They represent classes differentiated in terms of active and passive skills, as well as strengths and weaknesses.
As we advance, we develop our subordinates and also acquire better equipment for them. We don't have to strictly adhere to the specifics of a given profession and the creators encourage experimenting with abilities and equipment.
During the game, we often have to make decisions that affect the course of the story and its ending. The game allows us to form alliances with specific factions, but this may mean making enemies among representatives of other groups. Our choices can affect the state of our team, potentially leading to strengthening bonds or, on the contrary, destroying friendships.
The game features a so-called "randomizer" and a set of tools that allow us to customize the campaign to individual preferences. The authors allow us to change the order of recruiting heroes and heroines, as well as to modify the difficulty level.
Dark Deity 2 takes us to the fantasy world created for the first part of the series. After 25 years, the land of Verroa has been rebuilt under the supervision of Irving and the Eternal Order. However, it was not an idyllic situation, as animosities between the factions ruling it regularly made themselves known. To make matters worse, a threat from the Holy Asverellian Empire appeared on the horizon.
However, not all is lost, as Gwyn and Riordian, the descendants of Irving, take command of the Eternal Delegation. Their goal is to form an alliance and stop the specter of conquest looming over the land of Verroa. It depends on us how their adventure will unfold and end.
The two-dimensional graphics of Dark Deity 2 were created using pixel art technique.
