May 19, 2015

An action RPG and the third chapter of the adventures of a morally unambiguous monster slayer, Geralt of Rivia. As were the parts of the cycle, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s literary works, while not being a direct adaptation of any of his books. The story picks up after the events of the previous game and focuses on several plotlines, including Geralt’s lost love, invasion of the Nilfgaard Empire on the Northern Kingdoms, as well as the eponymous, spectral hunt. The gameplay is characterized by a sandbox style, giving players much freedom in exploring the vast world (an area more than 40 times bigger than in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings) and completing hundreds of side quests. The developers from CD Projekt RED introduced many new features, including a new REDengine3 that offers excellent audiovisual quality.

This time around, we assume the role of a sorcerer, who uses the forbidden powers of the Source and is constantly pursued by the Order. We can determine the race and origin of our character, both of which influence the attitude of the encountered NPCs towards him or her to a large extent. The gameplay mechanics do not deviate significantly from the previous game in the series, although the developers did introduce a few novelties, such as a modified combat system, new element combinations as well as Source Powers. Contrary to its predecessor and other titles of the franchise, the production has a clearly darker atmosphere.

October 15, 2019

An unusual, isometric RPG game that is the first title developed by Estonian studio Fortress Occident. The game is focused mostly on narrative. It takes place in a fictional world that combines modern setting with fantasy traits and with retro-futuristic technologies. The player assumes the role of a policeman who is tired of life. He begins working on a case that can either give him a chance of redemption or take him to the very bottom. During the game player is exploring, completing tasks, speaking to various people and fighting. However, all of this is done in a way that is unusual for the genre. The dialogue system is similar to a logic game during which you must fight by using words and manipulate the person you speak with in various ways. The battles are based on dialogues as well – you must select various text descriptions of actions, trying to create a battle scene worthy of being placed in a good novel.

The game’s style is reminiscent of its two predecessors, in which – unlike in the first parts of the cycle – we experience the events from first-person perspective. The plot takes us back to the nuclear wasteland, where the survivors are forced to constantly fight for their lives. Fallout 4 features various new locations and characters, and a whole variety of plot quests and challenging opponents.
