Monster Hunter Protagonist Will Use Two Blades, Because That's What Milla Jovovich Used
In an interview for Empire, Milla Jovovich revealed that in the upcoming Monster Hunter movie, the main character played by the actress, will fight with two blades. Jovovich admitted that when using this arsenal, she killed the most monsters in the video game, on which the movie is based.
In 2018 we learned that the popular action game series Monster Hunter video will get a movie adaptation. The film has a budget of $60 million and iss created by the team that developed the Resident Evil movie series, starring Milla Jovovich, and directed and written by Paul W. S. Anderson. The latter two were recently interviewed by Empire (the whole interview will be published in the paper edition), during which we learn a little more about the main character.
Jovovich revealed that the film's protagonist - Artemis - is not based on any known character from the game universe, so that viewers who are not familiar with the games will have no trouble getting into the film. The actress is a big fan of Monster Hunter and decided to use in the movie the same arsenal she used in the game. So she chose double blades, with which she is said to have slaughtered the most monsters during her journey through the New World. “I experimented with different weapons during the game and was able to kill more monsters with those blades. I thought they’d look really beautiful in an action sequence.”
A year ago, the first trailer of the Monster Hunter movie was leaked to the web. The production is to be released early next year (according to Empire). The story will focus on the aforementioned Artemis - a Colonel, whose unit has been brought to a world dominated by various monsters known from the game series. A strange hunter will help her find herself in these unusual conditions. The film will also feature Ron Perlman, Meagan Good, T.I. Harris, Josh Helman, Diego Boneta and Jin An-Yeung.
