Despite being 22 years old, the game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds remains a noteworthy production - both for fans of Star Warsas well as people who like RTS games in general. On the day of its release, the project admittedly presented a low level of technical refinement and many of its problems were never fixed by official patches, but fortunately the game was saved by the players themselves, who created the mod called Expanding Fronts. We want to remind you about it, as the project just received its first update in six months.
Expanding Fronts - list of changes and news
The latest version of the mod is marked 1.5.1. The new version of the mod brings many anticipated changes.
- First of all, the scripts responsible for random map generation have been thoroughly reworked. There is no longer a situation where players start with too few resources, and battlefields are now created to maximize the space available to players.
- A new source of coal in the form of underwater gas vents has also been added.
- The match setup menu has gained the option of shared reconnaissance between allies, so they all see the same thing.
- The map editor has been heavily expanded, adding several new units, heroes, podracers, animals and props.
- AI was also improved and a number of maps were refreshed.
- There was also a ton of bug fixes and gameplay balance.
Expanding Fronts significantly improves and expands the content of Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. It enables us to enjoy ultra widescreen resolutions and smooth gameplay at 60 frames per second. The mod also fixes most of the bugs left by the game's developers and introduces an alternative multiplayer architecture, still enabling you to play over the Internet (the original servers were closed long ago).
Expanding Fronts also introduces significant changes to the game's factions. Each of the core groups has been divided into several sub-factions that specialize in different combat objectives. Armies have also been redesigned and enhanced with new units and technologies.
