When should I go for the Death Domain subclass?
- The Death Domain subclass allows you to play as a Cleric dealing Necrotic damage, who is also capable of resurrecting corpses like a necromancer. Despite choosing this path, the Cleric will still be able to heal team members.
- The recommended races for the Death Domain subclass are Elf, Halfling and Drow.
Most important features of this subclass
- When playing as a Death Domain Cleric, you can unlock options related to dealing more Necrotic damage. These are Touch of Death at level 2, Inescapable Destruction at level 6 (your attacks ignore enemies' resistance to Necrotic damage, although this does not apply to those with total immunity) and Necrotic Bonus at level 9 (once per turn, you can deal additional Necrotic damage with a melee weapon).
- Many spells for this subclass are associated with Necromancy - these are primarily Bone Chill (deals Necrotic damage and prevents an enemy from regenerating health), Ray of Sickness (struck enemies take Poison damage), Animate Dead (allows for resurrecting corpses to aid in battle), Vampiric Touch (drains hit points from enemies) and Contagion (inflicts a chosen disease on an enemy).
- Thanks to Reaper, attacks normally aimed at a single opponent can now target 1 additional enemy.
How to play as a Death Domain?
- The most important feat for the Death Domain subclass is, of course, Wisdom, which is crucial for every Cleric. In addition to this, pay attention to Constitution and Dexterity.
- Surround yourself with a group of helpers. In addition to corpses reanimated with the Animate Dead spell, you can also summon spirits with the Spirit Guardians spell. This should make it significantly harder for enemies to approach your Cleric.
- Rely on attacks related to dealing Necrotic damage, as well as imposing curses and other negative statuses on your enemies. However, don't forget that your Cleric character must also take care of healing other wounded (and alive) team members whenever necessary. So, make sure to have spells like Cure Wounds or Healing Word.
